Izegem, Belgium – 22 February 2024
The EPP Group protects Europe's food security by standing for a competitive European agricultural model based on families and professional farmers. We believe that rural areas must be further supported - by investing in infrastructure, in digitalisation, in innovation, and healthcare services – so that living in any village in Europe offers the same quality of life as living in a city. The EPP4Farmers event in Izegem will bring together EPP members, farmers and representatives of agricultural associations to seek together solutions that support sustainable agriculture and protect our food production. Our vision is simple: We want to support and develop our farming so it is resilient in the face of challenges.
The current farmers' protests across Europe reflect an acute need to take into account farmers' concerns at European, national and local level. That's why the EPP defends a European Farmers' Deal that anchors a long-term vision, offers a high degree of investment security and brings back calm to the farming sector. Being a farmer requires a lot of drive and deserves respect every day: on the field, at the table and in our policy.
The EPP Groups is strongly promoting the sustainability of the European agriculture not only from an environmental and social prospective but also from an economical one. We advocate for a fair income for farmers and we recognize the need to ensure the generational renewal in agriculture in Europe.
European agriculture and rural areas go hand in hand. Farmers are the backbone of the rural areas. As EPP, we want to make sure that our farmers can concentrate on the thing they do best: farming while preserving the environment and the landscape. For prosperous farms and vibrant rural areas.
The series of conferences entitled “European Farmers’ Deal: EPP Vision for Agriculture in Europe” consist of targeted events in the Member States in order to further develop the dialogue with farmers and agricultural policy-makers across EU.
