Rome, Italy- 15 April 2024
EPP is the party of European farmers and rural communities. We supported farmers in the past. We will continue to do so. We believe that rural areas must be further supported - by investing in infrastructure, in digitalisation, in innovation, and healthcare services – so that living in any village in Europe offers the same quality of life as living in a city. With the EPP4Farmers event in Rome we aim to seek together solutions that support sustainable agriculture and protect our food production. Our vision is simple: We want to support and develop our farming so it is resilient in the face of challenges.
The EPP group is fighting for a stronger and more concrete EU agricultural policy, far from ideological approaches, that can involve and make our farmers protagonists in the fight against climate change without compromising our food security and autonomy; an innovative agricultural policy supported by adequate funding especially for small and medium-sized, young and family farms. The EPP is the farmers' party, and the Rome Event aims to strengthen its link with them and reiterate how important the alliance between agriculture and the environment is.
The EPP Groups is strongly promoting the sustainability of the European agriculture not only from an environmental and social prospective but also from an economical one. We advocate for a fair income for farmers and we recognize the need to ensure the generational renewal in agriculture in Europe.
European agriculture is at a crossroads. For too long, the voice of farmers has been left out of crucial policy discussions. We in the EPP want to change that by putting agriculture first. Farmers are a central part of the climate transition and are more than willing to make changes to protect nature and biodiversity. It’s time to make their lives easier by recognising their contribution, rewarding them for their efforts and reducing regulatory burdens.
Agriculture and environment must go hand in hand, because agriculture is part of the solution to climate change.
The series of conferences entitled “European Farmers’ Deal: EPP Vision for Agriculture in Europe” consist of targeted events in the Member States in order to further develop the dialogue with farmers and agricultural policy-makers across EU.
