Plovdiv, Bulgaria – 15 March 2024
The EPP Group protects Europe's food security by standing for a competitive European agricultural model. We believe that rural areas must be further supported - by investing in infrastructure, in digitalisation, in innovation, and healthcare services – so that living in any village in Europe offers the same quality of life as living in a city. The EPP4Farmers event in Plovdiv will bring together EPP members, farmers and representatives of agricultural associations to seek together solutions that support sustainable agriculture and protect our farmers.
Our farmers are the backbone of European food security, having successfully overcome the crises posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. As the party of European farmers and rural communities, the EPP is devoted to defending farmers’ interests. The EPP will continue advocating for a fair income for farmers and resilient rural economies. We will maintain our support for young farmers including through increased funding, as well as our dedication to bringing innovation in the area of agriculture.
Our farmers provide food security for the EU and beyond, facing a number of challenges. The farmers` protests in most Member States show us that we need to do more to support European agriculture. The discontent of farmers in Europe reflects the urgent need for recognition of their problems at European, national and local levels.
The EPP Group is committed to protecting the economic and social prospects of European farmers. We stand together with them in the challenge of today and in creating a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector for the future.
We must support our farmers; they are our guarantee for food security.
The series of conferences entitled “European Farmers’ Deal: EPP Vision for Agriculture in Europe” consist of targeted events in the Member States in order to further develop the dialogue with farmers and agricultural policy-makers across EU.
